A Dependency Constraint Grammar for Esperanto

چکیده

This paper presents a rule-based formalism for dependency annotation within the Constraint Grammar framework, implemented as an extension of the open source CG3 compiler. As a proof of concept we have constructed a complete dependency grammar for Esperanto, building on morphosyntactically annotated input from the EspGram parser. The system is described and evaluated on a test corpus. With a 4% error rate, and most errors caused by simple error propagation from the morphosyntactic input module, our system has proven robust enough to be integrated into real life applications, such as the Lingvohelpilo spelland grammarchecker.

Tagging and Parsing an Artificial Language An Annotated Web-Corpus of Esperanto

In the first half of this paper, we present and evaluate EspGram a Constraint Grammar (CG) -based parser for the artificial language Esperanto. The second half of the paper describes the compilation and annotation of a corpus of 18.5 million words covering Esperanto literature, news text and web pages. As a planned language, conceived to be easy to learn and flexible to use, Esperanto has a hig...

BANK OF ENGLISH AND BEYOND Hand-crafted parsers for functional annotation

The 200 million word corpus of the Bank of English was annotated morphologically and syntactically using the English Constraint Grammar analyser, a rulebased shallow parser developed at the Research Unit for Computational Linguistics, University of Helsinki. We discuss the annotation system and methods used in the corpus work, as well as the theoretical assumptions of the Constraint Grammar syn...

Writing Weighted Constraints for Large Dependency Grammars

Implementing dependency grammar as a set of defeasible declarative rules has fundamental advantages such as expressiveness, automatic disambiguation, and robustness. Although an implementation and a successful large-scale grammar of German are available, so far the construction of constraint dependency grammars has not been described at length. We report on techniques that were used to write th...

Toward Synchronous Extensible Dependency Grammar

Extensible Dependency Grammar (XDG; Debusmann, 2007) is a flexible, modular dependency grammar framework in which sentence analyses consist of multigraphs and processing takes the form of constraint satisfaction. This paper shows how XDG lends itself to grammar-driven machine translation and introduces the machinery necessary for synchronous XDG. Since the approach relies on a shared semantics,...

PAC Learning Constraint Dependency Grammar Constraints

Constraint Dependency Grammar (CDG) 11, 13] is a constraint-based grammatical formalism that has proven eeective for processing English 5] and improving the accuracy of spoken language understanding systems 4]. However, prospective users of CDG face a steep learning curve when trying to master this powerful formalism. Therefore, a recent trend in CDG research has been to try to ease the burden ...
